Vindication

To all those who ridiculed my eating philosophy of "follow your body's signals":

Ha, ha. I am supported by at least one study involving 597 women.

A new study has found that finding the right diet is no match for a new style of eating called “intuitive eating” that is based on feelings of hunger and fullness rather than on emotions or situations. Those who followed intuitive eating principles actually had a slightly lower Body Mass Index than women who did not.

Other researchers have determined that intuitive eating has three components: unconditional permission to eat when hungry and to eat what food you desire; eating for physical rather than emotional reasons; and reliance on internal hunger and fullness cues to determine when and how much to eat.

science discovers that you should eat when you're hungry, not when you're sad.

mind-blowing.

it's a little strange that we've gotten to the point where we have to rediscover these truths.

the natural follow-up research is whether you should breathe when you need air or just when you're upset.

I don't get it. You look thin to me. Why all the obsession with food? :(

People get thin BECAUSE they are obsessed with food.

It's like asking Warren Buffett, why do you have that little house in Omaha and invest all your money in excellent stocks, when you're a billionaire?

I used to eat "naturally" when I was a lad. I always thought it was good for me.

However, as you live in this world, it's hard to avoid picking up other weird reasons: it tastes good, it makes you feel good, it's mealtime, friends are eating, clean your plate, etc. etc.

Thus, one has to continually revitalize and refresh one's attitudes towards food.

I am not surprised naturally thin people eat "intuitively."

I'd be surprised if people with a history of weight problems would be able to do it without much training and unconditioning.
