doormat decision

My townhouse came with a doormat, which is now at least four years old. My brother calls it "the pile of unidentifiable material which used to be a doormat".

I've narrowed down my decision to three choices.

A. Throw it away, and have no doormat at all.

B. Buy this amusing doormat, which may quickly get dirty as people wipe their feet on it:

C. Buy a normal-looking doormat, like this:

Suggestions?

Go with the normal looking mat. Cutsie items that you see everyday get old FAST. It's like this:
1st day: Oh, so funny!
2nd day: Yeah, it's cute.
3rd day: Nice mat.
4th day: Well, it seemed funny at the time...
5th day: Gag. I thought THAT was funny?
6th day: I wonder if I have time to burn that &*#$ thing?

Definitely B. I think it's fitting with your sense of humor.

You should get the funny one, because I don't think economics factors into your decision. You get always get the normal one later, or put it underneath the funny one.
I think you should have at least something because if guests have very muddy shoes, they like to scrape the mud off outside your home. Even if people take off their shoes in your house, if you have a carpeted entryway you will get more mudstains on the carpet in the entryway.

C doesn't look normal to me at all! Rather embellished. Novelty doormats are fun at first for each unique visitor, but quickly become unremarkable.

What about getting another doormat that looks like the old one you're going to discard? These aren't pets, but...

I would suggest "B". If it gets too bad, throw it away and buy a new one.

The universe is big and there is plenty of landfill space left.

B.

Doormats keep the dirt away (think mud and--who knows--dog's poop), so better have one. C doesn't look like it can keep anything away, it just falls through, if it falls at all. I'm sure you can get some awesome doormat if you try hard, a new strange hobby of some sort.

B, and wash it daily. Or at least regularly. Or don't.

Brian's right that you won't love it forever anyways.

And everyone's right that C does not look like it'll fulfill a doormat's primary function very well.

I'd go with B. The joke may get old to you over time, but not to your visitors. They will be greeted with a bit of humor, which would set the tone for their visit.

Smile a little, when you get home.

If the doormat goes outside your door, C looks like the right style of doormat (durably and rubbery, with edges to scrape mud off shoes). If inside, then B looks like the right style.

So get both, and give your guests ample opportunity to de-mudify their shoes. ;-)

Hi
I suggest
Option B

Because when you are tired and knocking your door or push your it will give you pleasure .It is the first thing which welcome you in your house :-)

Option B is awesome. I would go with that. But maybe Brian is right. After sometime you will get tired of it.

When you get tired of the funny one, you can take a dump on it. This will make it funny again.

Buy both and contribute to the economy, you rich kids!

Then design a algorithm to select one of the mats based on days of the week, phase of the moon etc.

I thought you might have picked the "There's no place like 127.0.0.1" mat.

Niniane (or readers) - I'm just curious as to whether you feel put off in any way when someone asks you if could please take off your shoes before coming into their home/apt? I personally don't have a problem with this but am aware of (and am a little surprised at) others who do. Thanx!
