conversations about Caltech

Today Megan had me do this exercise:

I was not as graceful as the woman depicted above.

Megan: "Shoulders over your wrists! Raise your leg! You're not raising your leg high enough! Are you listening to what I'm saying?"

Me: [struggling] "This is hard."

Megan: "I know you can figure this out! You went to Caltech."

Me: [out of breath] "We did not learn this at Caltech."

...

A better example of the Caltech lifestyle happened during a conversation last month with my college friend C3. He has always been an avid video game player, and would disappear for weeks after the release of a Blizzard title.

Me: "So do you play World of Warcraft?"

C3: "I stayed away from it, since I figured that would mark the end of my corporeal existence."

I told this later to Ono, who said while laughing, "Note how he says it's not the end of his entire existence, since he'll still have an existence through WoW."

Toldja you'd regret not taking that "Secrets of the killer ninja" class!

Hmmm... Caltech is a prototypical nerd school and the stereotype is that nerds are out of shape so it might've made more sense for her to say, "Damnit, I know you went to Caltech, but lift your leg higher."

Caltech seems to have a good range of physical education courses.

Caltech physical education requirement.
"Before graduation each undergraduate is required to successfully complete 9 units of physical education. This requirement may be satisfied entirely or in part by participation in intercollegiate athletics, or successful completion of physical-education class coursework."

Stop making excuses and start listening to Megan! :-)

(evaluating picture)

Sigh. Looks like the maid from Brady Bunch has been shooting steroids again. Ye gods, you could bounce a dime off those lean, exquisitely-matched hams! A perfect counterpoint to the undulating tiers of rippling back fat. As the faint aroma of maple syrup wafts through the gym, you suddenly find yourself craving waffles...

I suppose it could be argued that at least some Caltech students are there due to their personal drive and motivation to succeed. The rest are probably slackers. What is the true measure of a Nerd, anyway? Ask them what they do for fun...

C3's corporeal existence should be reasonably safe as long as Blizzard doesn't add an option to create new characters through cross-breeding. Genetic optimization can be quite addictive.

Wow.

Either you just made the luckiest guess in the world, or...

I think we need a point of reference here. Have Megan take a picture of you doing the exercise. Then we can do a side by side comparison of the pictures to see if you are even coming close to doing it properly.

At the very least, I am sure it would be entertaining.
