I've often fantasized about doing that to an efficiency apartment. Taking the smallest, most spartan little monk's cell and completely remodeling the interior to have every ridiculous ammenity you can think of (tray ceiling w/central medallion & tiny chandelier, crown molding, wainscoting, granite, stainless steel, tile, polished oak & mahogany, leather, marble, etc.) It would be the most luxurious 400 square feet in the world... and from the outside, no one would ever know except you. :)

Looks fantastic, and quite Parisian. I'd love to live there with you.
You should definitely raise the ceiling to 12 feet, it'll be great.
That apartment appears to have severe problems with moiré. If you're going to emulate it, make sure you use appropriate sampling and anti-aliasing techniques, especially if you need to rescale.

It looks like Dr. Seuss would live there.
